THE NORMAN MANLEY MEMORIAL LECTURES, 1984-1995

Product no.: HP163

This collection of lectures honours the memory of Norman Manley who served as Jamaica’s Chief Minister from 1955 to 1959 and Premier from 1959 to 1962. Popularly known as the 'father of modern Jamaica', Norman Washington Manley devoted his life to the liberation of people wherever his influence could be felt.

The first lecture was delivered in 1984 by Professor Stuart Hall, and in which he said: “Manley ... was a man of his time and a Leader and Founder of the Nation.”

Also included is the lecture given by Tony Benn MP in 1995, in which he said of Norman Manley: “... it is worth commemorating his memory and continue with these lectures so that none of us forget the quality of the leadership that he gave to his people and to the human race.”

First published in 1996, the lectures are available to a wider audience as well as giving anyone who was privileged to be present at any of them the opportunity to savour them again.
